Court Reduces Sentence for YouTuber Mohamed Abdelaty in “Indecent Content” Case
The Cairo Economic Court of Appeal has reduced the prison sentence of YouTuber Mohamed Abdelaty from two years to three months, in a case involving videos deemed offensive to public decency. The ruling was issued on Saturday and has reignited discussions about online content and the responsibilities of digital creators in Egypt.
Abdelaty, who ran a YouTube channel active since December 2022, produced around 140 weekly episodes filmed in a studio owned by his brother’s company. During investigations, he admitted that the videos contained explicit language and suggestive content intended to attract views and increase revenue.

The channel reportedly amassed over five million views, with Abdelaty earning between $1,000 and $1,500 per month from his YouTube activities.
Previously, the Cairo Economic Court had sentenced Abdelaty to two years in prison and imposed a fine of 100,000 EGP. The case, widely referred to as the “indecent videos” case, drew significant public attention and sparked debates on the limits of online content in Egypt.
While the ruling reduces his sentence significantly, the case highlights ongoing questions about digital content regulations, public decency, and accountability for creators in the rapidly growing online media space.
