Ramadan is wrapping up, and you know what that means—kahk season is officially here! But this year, something other than powdered sugar is leaving a mark… the price tags!
Word on the street (and all over social media) is that one luxury bakery has priced a single box of kahk at a jaw-dropping EGP 16,000! While this might be an extreme case, there’s no denying that kahk prices have skyrocketed across the board. On average, a decent box will now set you back anywhere between EGP 800 to EGP 2,500—and let’s be honest, that’s enough to make anyone second-guess their sweet tooth!
Inflation has undoubtedly played a role, but people can’t help but poke fun at how kahk is turning into a luxury item. Social media reactions have been golden, with memes comparing kahk to designer handbags and tweets joking that families might need a payment plan just to afford their holiday treats this year.
Despite the hefty price tags, one thing is for sure—kahk is a non-negotiable part of Eid. Whether you’re splurging on the fancy stuff or sticking to a good old homemade batch, the tradition (and the sugar rush) lives on!
What do you think—would you ever pay that much for a box of kahk, or are you dusting off grandma’s recipe instead?
