Egyptian Captain and Crew Rescued Sole Survivor of Migrant Boat Tragedy in the Mediterranean

An Egyptian captain has taken over the internet after sharing a video documenting the rescue of a young man in the middle of the Mediterranean.

How the Rescue Unfolded

An Egyptian captain and his crew sprang into action after spotting a young man clinging to life in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. While on duty aboard, the captain noticed movement in the water from the bridge and immediately ordered the vessel to change course.

What followed was a swift, coordinated rescue effort, with the entire crew working hand in hand, each professionally carrying out their role. Against rough seas, strong currents, and near-freezing water temperatures. The team managed to pull the young man to safety, turning a moment of near-certain loss into a life-saving rescue.

About The Young Man and The Sole Survivor

The young was identified as Ramadan Conte, a young father from Sierra Leone, and the sole survivor of a migrant boat carrying 51 people. On January 22, 2026, the boat sank in the Mediterranean, east of the Tunisian coast and south of Malta, leaving fifty people surviving to death. Ramadan survived after spending more than 24 hours adrift in the sea, enduring freezing waters, high waves, and powerful currents conditions that make survival extremely rare.

After the Rescue

After the successful rescue, Ramadan was transferred safely to the Maltese Coast Guard, where he was reported to be in stable condition. Crew members later described the scene at sea as devastating, and Captain Ahmed Omar described the rescue as “divine intervention,” saying the crew was simply a means through which a life was saved.

While the tragedy claimed dozens of lives, the successful rescue of Ramadan Conte stands as a powerful reminder that humanity, teamwork, and quick action can still make the impossible possible.
