But in addition to the much-anticipated museum opening, the government has also announced the release of commemorative coins crafted in gold and silver.

However, it’s not just the design of the coins that’s making headlines…it’s the jaw-dropping prices!

Commemorative Coins Are In Motionnnnn!

In a move to celebrate the GEM opening, the Egyptian Cabinet authorized the Ministry of Finance to issue a series of special edition coins.

These will be available in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 pounds, and will be crafted in both silver and gold.

The silver coins will feature a blend of 720 parts silver and 280 parts copper, giving them a unique shine that matches the GEM!

Prices That Left People Stunned

While the coins themselves are being celebrated as a tribute to Egypt’s rich history, it’s the prices that have really taken the internet by storm. For those looking to collect these shiny keepsakes, here’s a breakdown of the prices:

Silver Commemorative Coins:

  • EGP 1 Coin: 2,580 EGP
  • EGP 5 Coin: 3,010 EGP

Not for Daily Use

It’s important to note that these coins will not circulate as regular currency. Instead, they are intended as commemorative pieces for collectors and investors.

For those ready to make their purchase, there’s another catch: the payment method. Coins can only be bought using a Visa card.

While many are excited about the opportunity to own a piece of Egyptian history, the hefty price tags have led some potential buyers to reconsider their purchase.
