“I Don’t Want to Sacrifice Myself—I Haven’t Truly Lived Yet”: Aya Samaha Opened Up About Motherhood and Childhood Traumas

Aya Samaha just got real about something most people don’t even say out loud. In an interview on Asrar with Amira Badr, she opened up about her past, her parents’ divorce, and how it all shaped the way she sees life.

But the biggest thing that got people talking? She doesn’t want kids—and she doesn’t think motherhood is something every woman has to do.

Aya grew up in a home filled with financial struggles and family tension, and it left a mark on her. When her parents divorced at 18, she wasn’t heartbroken—she actually thought it was for the best.

In her eyes, they had been together for 30 years, but sometimes love just runs its course. Instead of holding on, she felt they made the right call by letting go.

“I Need to Live for Myself”

Aya didn’t just say she doesn’t want kids—she explained why. “I don’t want to sacrifice myself. I haven’t truly lived yet,” she admitted. To her, having a child means giving up a huge part of yourself, and she’s just not ready for that. “The moment you have a child, you’re tied to them forever. You’re responsible in ways you can’t take back.”

And that’s the thing—she doesn’t just not want kids; she doesn’t want to feel trapped in a role she’s not sure is for her. Right now, she wants to live for her, to make up for the years she felt like she was just surviving.

Her husband, Mohamed, isn’t against her decision either, proving that not everyone expects marriage to automatically mean kids.

For now, Aya Samaha is doing her. She’s focusing on herself, making up for lost time, and choosing her own version of happiness. And in a world that tells women to put others first, that’s a pretty bold move.
