In a harmonious blend of Saudi and Egyptian entertainment endeavors, Counselor Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of the Saudi General Entertainment Authority, has thrown his weight behind an upcoming film. The film celebrates the life of the legendary Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum. Alalshikh’s support highlights a collaborative effort to honor Umm Kulthum’s enduring legacy. The project will feature actress Mona Zaki in the lead role. Additionally, it promises to be a vibrant tribute to the iconic artist’s legacy.
The highly anticipated biographical film “El-Set,” centered around the life of Umm Kulthum, stands as the crown jewel of the “Big Time” Fund. Mona Zaki leads a stellar ensemble cast, with Marwan Hamed directing and acclaimed author Ahmed Mourad penning the screenplay. With such esteemed talents at the helm, “El-Set” promises to be a cinematic spectacle that pays homage to the unparalleled legacy of Umm Kulthum.
However, this isn’t the first time Umm Kulthum’s life has been immortalized on film. In 1999, artist Sabreen took on the challenge of portraying the iconic singer in a series dedicated to her name. Additionally, Firdous Abdel Hamid offered her interpretation of Umm Kulthum in a separate production, underscoring the enduring fascination with the artist’s indelible legacy.
Turki Alalsheikh unveiled the General Entertainment Authority’s commitment to providing production support for the Umm Kulthum biopic. Such decisions were discussed at a lively press conference held in Cairo. This collaboration between Saudi Arabia and Egypt aims to offer audiences a fresh perspective on the singer’s remarkable journey, reimagining her biography in a unique and captivating manner.
But that’s not all the entertainment mogul Turki Al-Sheikh has up his sleeve. During a media conference, he announced a groundbreaking agreement with Egyptian producer Ahmed Badawy to establish the “Big Time” Fund. This fund aims to sponsor the finest Egyptian and Saudi films, nurturing cinematic talent and fostering cross-cultural collaborations.
