In a recent video shared online, she described how a group referring to themselves as “stray animal control” reportedly entered a compound at dawn.

According to her, they captured the stray dogs in sacks and killed them, later dumping the bodies outside the compound.

What the Law Really Says

In her video, Phaedra pointed to Egyptian environmental law, which recognizes stray animals as part of the natural ecosystem. This means harming them is considered a disruption of environmental balance—and is legally prohibited.

She also cited criminal law, which does not permit the killing of animals without a valid reason.

More Than Local Rules

Beyond national legislation, Egypt signed international agreements that recognize the protection of animals as a crucial part of environmental and ethical responsibility.

These agreements further reinforce the need for humane treatment of strays and accountability in cases of abuse.

A Call to Action

Phaedra urged citizens not to remain silent. She called on the public to report such incidents to the Public Prosecution and the Ministry of Environment, stressing that community action is key to preventing future abuse.

Her message sparked widespread attention. While many expressed outrage and support, others emphasized the need for stricter enforcement and clearer protocols for humane stray animal control across the country.
