Raghad Khaled

Residents of the 6th of October and El Sheikh Zayed cities of EL Giza Governorate reported a layer of thick smoke and a strong odor engulfing the night sky, leaving them disturbed and concerned.

Worried about the severity of the situation, residents took to social media platforms to inquire about the reason behind the two phenomena. While some thought the odor and smoke were related to the recent fire at a famous restaurant located at Waslet Dahshour Road, others claimed it was an explosion in a sewage station, thus; the odor.

What actually happened:

A source at the New Urban Communities Authority confirmed to Cairo24 the reason behind the widespread smoke cloud and the strong odor that dominated Hadayek October, 6th of October and El Sheikh Zayed. The source revealed that a massive fire had erupted at a sewage station in the Abu Rawash area.

The Giza emergency room received a report indicating that a fire had broken out inside a sewage station in the Abu Rawash area.

The source also indicated that the fire was brought under control as the civil protection services pushed fire trucks to the scene of the incident and managed to extinguish the fire before it spread to nearby neighborhoods. He also pointed out that the odor and smoke would cease in a matter of hours.
