“Someone adopt him, we can’t take it!” That’s exactly what thousands of Egyptians and people around the world are saying after seeing the story of Panchi-Kun, the abandoned baby monkey who has taken social media by storm.

Born in July 2025 at a city zoo in Japan, Panchi-Kun was rejected by his mother shortly after birth a situation that would have been fatal in the wild.
Zookeepers quickly stepped in, raising him around the clock. To soothe his anxiety, they first gave him blankets and later a plush orangutan doll.
What started as a comfort item soon became his constant companion. Videos show Panchi clinging to it the way baby monkeys cling to their mothers, sleeping with it, and even carrying it on his back.
Even as zookeepers gradually introduced him to other macaques, Panchi-Kun faced challenges. The troop didn’t fully accept him, shoving and pushing him away during play, making the plush doll his only safe source of comfort.
Within hours of the first clips being shared online, Panchi-Kun became a global sensation. People across Egypt reacted with empathy and emotion, hearts breaking to his story of abandonment, resilience, and the search for comfort.

Panchi-Kun’s journey reminds us how universal the need for love and security is, even across species.
