A Landmark You Can’t Miss

Whether you’re driving down the busy Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road or arriving from Sphinx Airport, it’s hard not to notice the towering figure. Standing at 27 meters high, the statue is already becoming a landmark, impossible to miss for anyone on their way to or from the city.

Ancient Meets Modern

What makes this statue stand out isn’t just its size, but its unique design. The artwork blends ancient Egyptian civilization with modern art, echoing the spirit of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM).

The figure itself gives off pharaoh-like energy, with a body and head that call back to Egypt’s kings, while still carrying a modern artistic touch.

The idea behind it is to create a bold, eye-catching piece that captures attention ahead of the museum’s highly anticipated opening, set in one of the most historically sensitive areas of Egypt—the Pyramids Plateau and GEM zone.

Meet the Artist

The creative mind behind this project is Dr. Diaa Awad, professor of sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Minya University. Dr. Awad described the statue as both a challenge and an important milestone in his career, noting the difficulty and significance of designing artwork for such a symbolic location.

His goal was to craft something that not only respects Egypt’s ancient heritage but also speaks to the country’s modern identity.

Public Reactions

Since its unveiling, Egyptians have been buzzing with pride and excitement. Many see the statue as a sign of how art and history can come together to shape the future, especially with the GEM preparing to open its doors to the world.
