The blast was powerful enough to affect buildings at a university and nearby schools, prompting precautionary evacuations. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Videos shared on social media showed shattered windows and the tremors felt by residents, fueling initial confusion about the cause.
The uncertainty was amplified because the explosion happened on the same day the Ministry of Transport conducted safety tests at Madinet El Adala Station, part of the East Nile Monorail project.
Residents were warned they might see smoke or smell burning during the tests, leading many to assume the explosion was related.
According to the Egyptian Military Spokesperson, the blast actually originated from Huckstep, a military base near Cairo International Airport.
Specialized teams were dismantling old explosive materials when a sudden detonation triggered multiple explosions, shaking surrounding neighborhoods and creating widespread alarm.
Authorities have contained the incident, and technical teams are conducting all necessary safety and precautionary measures. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the detonation.
While the explosion caused temporary alarm and property damage, officials confirmed no casualties occurred. The incident serves as a reminder to remain calm, follow safety instructions, and stay updated through official statements during such events.
