“They Brought A British Actor Instead Of An African?” Mohamed Ramadan Revealed Why His AFCON Final Performance Was Canceled Less Than 24 hours Before The Match

Ramadan was originally announced as part of the AFCON celebrations in Morocco and was chosen to record a song for the tournament’s official album. Honored by the opportunity, he cleared his schedule and traveled to Marrakech to film his contribution.

Everything seemed on track until he was suddenly informed that his performance would no longer take place at the opening ceremony…

From Opening Act to Sudden Exclusion

According to Ramadan, the reason given was backlash questioning why an Egyptian artist would perform at the opening of a tournament hosted in Morocco. The decision was then adjusted, shifting his performance from the opening ceremony to the final.

While Ramadan found the reasoning confusing, especially since AFCON is a continental African competition and he is African, he accepted the change and publicly announced that he would perform at the final instead.

The real shock came a day before the final match.

Ramadan said no one contacted him with updates, prompting him to reach out himself. The response he received was unexpected: a video of media personality Amr Adib discussing an entirely separate clash between two figures in the entertainment industry, a situation Ramadan had no connection to.

Somehow, that unrelated controversy was generalized and reflected onto him.

Ramadan explained that this individual decision deeply upset him, especially since no one officially informed him of the cancellation.

Still, he was careful to stress that this was not a reflection of Morocco as a country. He emphasized his respect and love for Morocco and said the experience taught him a larger lesson: one person’s actions should never define or harm an entire group.

However, the conversation intensified when British actor Idris Elba appeared as the host of the AFCON closing ceremony.

While sources pointed out Elba’s personal connection to Morocco, he married in Marrakech in 2019, many viewers were left questioning why a British actor with no direct ties to African football replaced an African artist at Africa’s biggest tournament…
