A video circulating widely on social media has sparked heated debate in Egypt after a man claimed he was verbally assaulted during Ramadan fasting hours in Cairo.
The incident reportedly took place in the Abbassia district, near the criminal record office beside the Police Union Club. According to the man who shared the footage online, he was standing in the area holding an unlit cigarette when another man suddenly approached him.
In the video, the situation appears to escalate into a heated confrontation, with the second man shouting and directing insults at him.
The man who posted the video says the altercation began because the encounter happened during Ramadan fasting hours, claiming the other individual objected to him holding a cigarette in public.

He also alleged that the confrontation escalated to the point where the man directed severe verbal insults at him and his mother, prompting him to begin recording the encounter.
Following the incident, the man stated that he filed an official police report at El-Waili Police Station. According to his account, the report was registered under case number 1147 for the year 2026, accusing the other individual of verbal assault.
The video quickly spread across social media platforms, triggering a wave of reactions from users. While some condemned the aggressive behavior and supported the man’s right to personal freedom, others argued that public etiquette during Ramadan should be respected.
The incident has since reignited broader conversations online about personal freedoms, public behavior during the holy month, and how disagreements should be handled in crowded urban spaces.
