The ongoing tensions surrounding Gaza’s Rafah border have once again ignited heated debate, this time after Eylon Levy, the former spokesperson for Israel, tweeted about Egypt’s refusal to reopen its side of the border.

The Tweet That Sparked Controversy

Eylon Levy raised questions about the reason behind Egypt’s refusal to reopen its side of the Rafah border crossing in a tweet, which connects Gaza with Egypt.

Levy pointed out that Israel operates four other crossings into Gaza, and suggested that Egypt’s actions were politically motivated.

He urged his followers to engage with the topic by asking them to retweet, like, or reply if they knew why Egypt had yet to reopen the Rafah crossing.

He also shared a Reuters report which stated that Egyptian officials emphasized that Egypt would not reopen its side of the Rafah border until Israel relinquished control over the Palestinian side.

A Sharp Response…

Rahma Zein, a prominent activist, wasted no time in responding to Levy’s tweet.

In a fiery reply, Zein accused Levy of spreading misinformation, calling him a “liar” and asserting that she had witnessed firsthand the devastation caused by Israeli military actions.

Zein stated that Israeli bombings had severely damaged the Rafah crossing, to the point where trucks carrying aid could no longer pass.

She also accused Israel of intentionally targeting the infrastructure to further its goal of displacing Palestinians, particularly into Egypt’s Sinai region.

People from all around the world replied to Levy’s post saying that everyone knows what happened in May 2024…

What Happened in May 2024?

The situation escalated in May 2024, when Israel reportedly took control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah border. This move was part of an ongoing campaign by Israel to exert more control over the movement of people and goods in and out of Gaza.

Since that time, Israel has been controlling the Rafah crossing, further complicating Egypt’s humanitarian aid trucks to reach Gaza
