Cairo Cracks Down on Tuk-Tuks… But They’re Not Disappearing Completely!

Cairo Is Cracking Down on Tuk-Tuks..

Big changes are coming to Cairo’s streets! Major General Dr. Ibrahim Saber, the city’s governor, has announced a ban on tuk-tuks in major roads and highways like Corniche El Nile, Salah Salem, the Autostrad, El Nasr, El Thawra, and streets near public squares, tourist spots, and busy commercial areas.

Why? The goal is to bring back some order to the traffic and cut down on the chaos caused by unlicensed tuk-tuks zooming around residential neighborhoods.

But tuk-tuk fans don’t need to worry, they’re not disappearing completely. The little three-wheelers are still allowed on side streets and smaller roads, especially in areas where bigger vehicles like minibuses or vans can’t reach.

To make sure everyone follows the rules, the governor is teaming up with district heads and the traffic department for daily checks. Vehicles caught breaking the rules will be held until fines (up to EGP 3,000) are paid, and then returned.

So, tuk-tuk lovers, your rides are safe… just maybe not on the main roads!
