This Honest Man Found Half a Million EGP and Did the Right Thing

In a heartwarming act of honesty, Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber honored Ahmed Ibrahim Mohamed Shaheen, a sanitation worker, in recognition of his integrity and dedication to his work after he returned a large sum of money he found while on duty.

The recognition took place during the Executive Council meeting of Cairo Governorate, held to review preparations for the upcoming Eid Al-Fitr celebrations. The meeting was attended by deputy governors of the four regions, heads of service directorates, district officials, and senior leadership from the governorate.

Ahmed’s story quickly stood out as a powerful example of integrity. While carrying out his daily work along the Nile Corniche, near the World Trade Center, he came across a large sum of money estimated at nearly 500,000 EGP.

Without hesitation, Ahmed reported the finding to the Bulaq Abu El Ela Police Station. Authorities responded promptly, launching the necessary investigations to identify the rightful owner and complete all legal procedures.

Following the investigation, the full amount was successfully returned to its owner.

Despite the circumstances, Ahmed refused to accept any financial reward, stating that what he did was simply his duty and a matter of honesty.

Governor Ibrahim Saber praised the act, emphasizing that such honorable examples reflect the true values of Egyptian society, including integrity, honesty, and responsibility. He also highlighted the importance of showcasing these role models, as they set an example for others in dedication and ethical conduct.

Ahmed’s story serves as a reminder that even the simplest acts, carried out with sincerity, can leave a lasting impact—and that everyday heroes walk among us.
