The Egyptian Cabinet\u2019s Media Center has published new statistics highlighting Egypt\u2019s ongoing efforts in the fight against cancer through the Presidential Initiative for Early Cancer Detection.<\/p>\n
According to the report, Egypt has set a new Guinness World Record for early cancer screening, performing eight screenings per minute for five types of cancer: lung, colon, breast, cervical, and prostate.<\/p>\n
This milestone reflects the government\u2019s commitment to building a comprehensive healthcare system that enhances citizens\u2019 well-being and ensures universal health coverage in line with global standards. The Presidential Initiative for Early Cancer Detection stands as a cornerstone of Egypt\u2019s public health strategy, aiming to combat non-communicable diseases, especially cancers, through early detection and free treatment, helping to increase recovery rates, reduce mortality, and strengthen public health security.<\/p>\n
Launched in June 2023, the initiative provides free diagnosis and treatment for the five targeted cancers: lung, colon, prostate, cervical, and breast. It also supports Egypt\u2019s national goal to eliminate cervical cancer by 2030.<\/p>\n
The program targets men and women aged 18 and above, with around 13.3 million citizens having participated in screenings as of mid-September 2025.<\/p>\n
The media center\u2019s infographics also explain how citizens can benefit from the initiative through a digital system that streamlines the process. Participants fill out a short health questionnaire at their local clinic to identify symptoms and the targeted type of cancer. They are then referred to partner hospitals for further testing.<\/p>\n
If test results are negative, individuals receive guidance for regular follow-ups based on their health status. In positive cases, the patient is referred to a multidisciplinary medical committee to determine the appropriate treatment plan.<\/p>\n
For diagnosis, the report highlights that colon cancer screening involves the Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) and colonoscopy, while cervical cancer detection relies on the HPV (Human Papillomavirus) test through a Pap smear.<\/p>\n
The initiative also collaborates with non-governmental and scientific associations, including the Egyptian Society for Cancer Treatment, the Egyptian Society for Cervical Endoscopy, and a number of private laboratories, ensuring a wide network of expertise and support.<\/p>\n
