Saudi Arabia is a land of surprises. While its famous landmarks from its big metropolises are well known, the country is home to lesser-known places that are equally captivating. Many, even those who live in Saudi Arabia, don’t know about them.
Al-Qasab has been a place that, for centuries, has been providing many corners of the peninsula with a vital resource that it has in abundance: salt. Located just over 160 km away from Riyadh, the salt flats are a shimmering sea of sparkling white salt crystals. They glisten under the desert sun, a stark contrast to the golden sands that surround them.

Right by the town of Al-Wajh lies a lagoon that’s home to the world’s fourth-largest barrier reef system.
