In Dammam, the buzz is all about shrimp as the 2024 season is set to start on August 1 and last for six months! Fishermen across the Eastern Province are revving up their boats and getting ready for an epic catch along the Arabian Gulf coasts, stretching from Khafji in the north to Uqair in the south. This year, 710 boats—big and small—are ready to hit the waves, with 30 at Manifa port, 20 at Safaniya, 330 at Jubail, 160 at Qatif, and 170 at Darin Island.
Eng. Fahd bin Ahmed Al-Hamzi from the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture is excited too, sharing that the ministry has streamlined permit processes and gone digital to make life easier for fishermen. Plus, they’re rolling out new fishing ports, installing engines, and providing emergency beacons to ensure a smooth and successful season.
