Saudi Arabia Drops Deets On Its Massive New Theme Park In The Sea

Avatar

The Rig was announced about three years ago, but the whole project was kept under wraps. The authorities have finally spilled the beans on it, and it’s unlike any other theme park in the world.

It is going to be located off the eastern coast of Saudi Arabia, about 40km from the shore, near Al Juraid Island and the Berri oilfield. It’s like an offshore adventure paradise, twice the size of what they first hinted at back in October 2021, covering a whopping 30 hectares.
Now, what’s the deal with The Rig? Well, it’s not your average theme park. It’s inspired by offshore oil platforms, and the whole shebang is meant to pay homage to Saudi Arabia’s rich oil and gas history. How cool is that?

Plus, there’s not just one, not two, but three hotels in the works at The Rig, boasting a grand total of 800 rooms. And that’s just the beginning.

You’ve got 11 restaurants serving up goodness, a marina, helipads (yes, you read that right), and an extreme sports and adventure park. Adrenaline junkies, rejoice!

But wait, there’s more! The Rig will also feature a variety of water activities, a diving center for underwater enthusiasts, an eSports center for gamers, plus a theater and a multipurpose arena for all your entertainment needs.

No official opening date has been announced yet, but when it does swing its doors open, they’re expecting a whopping 900,000 annual visitors by 2032. That’s a lot of excitement waiting to happen!

Oh, and here’s the cherry on top: Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund is throwing in about $5 billion for the ultimate offshore extravaganza. So, if you’re into thrill-seeking and unique experiences, then this one’s for you.
