The first incidence of monkeypox has been detected in Saudi Arabia. A visitor from outside Saudi Arabia who flew to Riyadh was found to have the disease by the kingdom’s ministry of health on Thursday.
All individuals who were in contact with the infected person were also taken for laboratory testing, according to a statement from the ministry, and none of them displayed any symptoms of the disease.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to continuing to monitor and follow up on monkeypox developments and to publicly reporting any new cases.
