The Qatar Calendar House confirmed that Suhail star rises today, officially kicking off the 53-day Suhail season. This white giant star, also called Suhail Al-Yamani, shines from the southern sky and is the second brightest star in the night sky after Sirius. For astronomy buffs, it sits in the Carina constellation, about 310 light-years away.
But beyond the science, Suhail is woven into Arabian tradition. For generations, people of the Arabian Peninsula have said: “When Suhail rises, the nights become cooler.”

Suhail’s rise is basically a seasonal marker! It means shorter days, cooler nights, fading hot winds, and higher chances of rainfall, and that your long sweaty summer is about to take a step back.
So, next time you’re out at dawn, peek southeast – that’s where Suhail will appear. It might be hard to spot right away, but by early September, it’ll be clear to the naked eye. Consider it your natural reminder that autumn is slowly making its way to Qatar.
