The night of March 26, 2026, is one the team at QAWS will not soon forget. A severe storm with heavy rain swept through the area, causing the main shelter tent to collapse completely. It has been a heartbreaking scene, with the structure left irreparable and the power generators knocked out. However, in true Doha fashion, the community did not wait a second to step in and help those four-legged friends during this crisis.

The response from people across Qatar has been nothing short of legendary. Volunteers rushed to the shelter as soon as the emergency plea went out, with some staying until 2:30 am to hang tarps and rearrange the dogs to keep them dry. Almost 100 dogs were moved into emergency foster homes in a single night! People showed up with tools, water, and even hot coffee for the team, proving that the community really does have a massive heart when it comes to the voiceless.
While so many animals are safe, the mission isn’t over yet. There are still around 100 dogs at the shelter that need a temporary home for the next 72 hours. If you have some extra space and a lot of love to give, the team will be at the shelter today, March 27, from 3:30 pm onwards to meet with new potential fosters. It is a great chance to help a dog in need while the shelter staff works on a more permanent solution for the damaged grounds.

Right now, the team is still in shock but is moving forward with a recovery plan. Contractors are arriving to assess the structural damage and figure out the costs of replacing the equipment and the main tent. QAWS will be sharing official details on how you can help financially once they have a clear idea of the expenses. For now, seeing the social media pages flooded with love and support is giving everyone the energy they need to keep going.
