The AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 set a new attendance record of 1.06 million spectators, making it the tournament’s most attended event in its 68-year history.
This record was set on Monday, when 63,753 passionate supporters packed the Al Bayt Stadium to watch defending champions Qatar defeat Palestine in the Round of 16.

The 18th edition of Asia’s top football event has officially surpassed the previous attendance record of 1.04 million, which was set over two decades ago at the 2004 edition in China PR.
Datuk Seri Windsor John, the General Secretary of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), expressed his sentiments, saying: “From the very beginning, we knew that the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 would take its place as the most accessible and engaging edition in the tournament’s history.
Football has the undeniable power to unite communities, and nowhere is that more palpable than right here in Qatar on Asia’s most prestigious stage.”

According to Jassim Al Jassim, CEO of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Qatar’s ability to host world-class sporting events is shown by the record-breaking attendance.
He said, “Once again, Qatar has reaffirmed its status as a global sporting capital. Our modern infrastructure and operational knowledge have enabled us to deliver again another accessible and culturally relevant event of the highest quality.”
Al Jassim added, “We’re thrilled to be setting records so early in the tournament. With 11 matches remaining, the best is yet to come, with many teams performing exceptional performances.”
