Doha has emerged as a global sports powerhouse, ranking among the top 10 cities in the world for its rich sporting heritage and ability to host top-tier international events.

Doha was ranked sixth worldwide on the global sports cities index

This prestigious recognition comes from the recently released “2023 Global Sports Cities Index” compiled by Shanghai University of Sport and The International Association of Sports Economists.

The Index assesses cities based on four key criteria: historical achievements in sports development, the impact of major international events and brand events held in 2022, the media coverage and exposure generated by sports, and the performance of top professional sports clubs in the 2021-22 season.

Doha’s impressive ranking is a testament to its unwavering commitment to promoting sports excellence and fostering a vibrant sporting culture. The city has hosted numerous world-class events, including the 2006 Asian Games, the 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, and the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships.
