FIFA World Cup 2026 Boycott Sparks Nostalgia For Qatar 2022

As excitement builds for the FIFA World Cup 2026, set to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, a growing number of football fans are instead calling for a boycott,  raising concerns over safety, political tensions, and accessibility.

Many supporters have expressed worries about personal security in the United States, pointing to ongoing political divisions, gun violence, and social unrest as factors that make international travel feel uncertain.

Others have highlighted strict visa policies and immigration barriers, which could prevent fans from several countries from attending matches, contradicting the World Cup’s message of unity and inclusion

Human rights groups have also criticised FIFA for what they see as double standards, questioning why some countries face sporting sanctions while others continue to host global events despite political and social controversies. For many fans, this has turned the 2026 tournament into a symbol of FIFA’s growing disconnect from supporter values.

Amid the backlash, social media has been flooded with nostalgia for Qatar 2022
