Journalists Faced Backlash After Making Racist Remarks Over Messi Wearing A Bisht

That was one epic World Cup final! Everyone was on the edge of their seat, biting their nails and sweating profusely. It was a long match but it was worth every extra time. Mbappe and Messi killed it but ultimately Argentina walked away victorious.

During the awards ceremony, Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani placed a bisht on Messi before handing him the trophy.

Although it was quite the iconic moment, western journalists shared some racist comments about the bisht and having Messi wear one

The bisht can be seen on the President of Qatar during the entire tournament and yet these journalists could not see the symbolism

The bisht is more than a traditional garment and placing it on Messi means that he is being honoured in Qatar. People have referred to the bisht as ‘cape’ and ‘cloak.’ One has also said that Qatar wanted to be represented in the photos; however, everyone will remember the 2022 World Cup was held in Qatar, regardless of the bisht appearing in the photos or not.
