The Ministry of Education and Higher Education today announced a 78% reduction in the cost of school transport as a move towards easing the financial burden on parents.
The per-semester transportation charge for non-Qatari students enrolled in public schools who are not GCC nationals has been set at QAR 220, according to Minister of Education and Higher Education HE Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi.
The Ministry also decided to waive the costs of books and transportation for imams and muezzins connected to the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.
In a statement, the Ministry further stated that this action indicates its eagerness to keep assisting students and their families in their educational endeavours in line with its mission of supplying high-quality education to everyone.
Children of Qatari women and those with disabilities were excused from paying the QAR 150 price for each student’s semester’s worth of textbooks and transportation costs.
The decision will be put into effect at the start of the 2023–2024 academic year.
