More Than 200k World Cup Workers Were Protected By Workers’ Welfare Standards

The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) was responsible for overseeing the construction and development of infrastructure for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. As part of its mission, the SC set strict standards for the welfare of the workers involved in the construction of World Cup-related facilities.

These standards were aimed at ensuring that the more than 200,000 workers employed on World Cup projects were treated fairly and provided with safe and decent working conditions.

One of the key ways in which the SC ensured the welfare of workers was by implementing strict labor standards and regulations. These regulations covered a wide range of issues, including working hours, overtime pay, and health and safety on the job. The SC also set up a monitoring and compliance system to ensure that these standards were being upheld, and that any violations were swiftly addressed.

The SC also established a number of initiatives to support the workers and improve their living conditions. One of these initiatives was the establishment of labor camps that provided workers with clean and safe accommodation. These camps were equipped with a range of facilities, such as medical centers, recreational areas, and libraries, to make the lives of the workers as comfortable as possible.

The SC also provided a range of support services to workers, such as legal assistance, financial counseling, and language classes. These services helped to ensure that workers were aware of their rights and had access to the resources they needed to improve their lives

In addition, the SC worked with a number of organizations, such as the International Labour Organization and the United Nations Development Programme, to ensure that the welfare of workers was protected. These organizations provided technical assistance, training, and support to the SC, which helped to ensure that the standards being implemented were in line with international best practices.

Overall, the SC’s efforts to protect the welfare of workers played an important role in ensuring that the construction of World Cup-related facilities was carried out in a way that was fair and safe for the workers involved. By implementing strict labor standards and providing a range of support services and initiatives, the SC helped to improve the lives of more than 200,000 workers and set an example for other large-scale construction projects to follow.
