One of the headline events slated for this season was the 2026 Finalissimaa high‑profile football match between the Euro 2024 champions Spain and the 2024 Copa América winners Argentina, scheduled for March 27 at Lusail Stadium in Qatar. UEFA announced the cancellation of the match due to security concerns linked to the ongoing regional conflict and the inability to agree on moving the fixture to another venue. This decision means fans will not see the event take place in Qatar as originally planned.

The broader Qatar Football Festival, a series of friendly international matches involving Qatar, Spain, Argentina, and other participating nations was also called off. The festival was intended to provide teams with warm‑up competition ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup but was canceled alongside the Finalissima due to the same travel and safety issues.

Likewise, the opening round of the FIA World Endurance Championship, the Qatar 1812KM race, has been postponed to later in the 2026 season to allow time for conditions to stabilize.
