10,000 completely furnished, insulated shelters were provided by Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) to more than 15 different cities and towns throughout Southeast Turkiye over the course of the three months that followed the earthquake, the organisation said in a statement today.
QFFD delivered the last of the mobile homes used to shelter the afflicted families as part of the State of Qatar’s response to the tragic earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria in February 2023.
Over sixty thousand people were killed and many more were injured as a result of the earthquake, which was unprecedented in its size and scope of devastation in recent history, in both Turkey and Syria.
Thousands of structures were demolished, and many more became dangerous for habitation.
Tens of thousands of people were left without shelter, warmth, or means of support due to the frigid temperatures and severe winter weather.
Qatar Fund and its key partners mobilised immediate emergency relief in the form of hot meals, food baskets, medicine, and shelter to ease these hardships.
