“I want to emphasise and thank the Emir of Qatar, who, in the darkest hours of the early morning, when Venezuela was being attacked, helped — he, his government, his prime minister — to obtain the first proof of life of the president and the first lady,” Rodríguez said, according to state-run broadcaster Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).
Qatar facilitated “a channel of communication and dialogue” between the United States and Venezuela, she said, and is now “helping in a working agenda that is beneficial to both parties within the framework of respect for international law.”
Qatar has since reiterated its willingness to support peaceful efforts to resolve the crisis.
“The State of Qatar is prepared to contribute to any international effort aimed at achieving an immediate peaceful solution in Venezuela,” al-Ansari said.
Following the U.S. military attack, which reportedly left at least one hundred people dead, including civilians and military personnel, Qatar offered to mediate between the parties and called for disputes to be resolved through dialogue.
The Gulf state has consistently promoted diplomacy and negotiation as the only path forward, stressing the importance of respecting international law and protecting civilian lives.
As tensions remain high, Qatar’s mediation efforts have placed the country at the center of ongoing international attempts to prevent further escalation and encourage a peaceful resolution to the Venezuelan crisis.
