Qatar’s Ministry of Interior (MoI) has shared important safety reminders for anyone who might come across stray dogs — and knowing these tips could make all the difference.
Through a series of infographics on social media, the Ministry explained how understanding a stray dog’s body language can help prevent dangerous situations.
When noticing a gathering of dogs showing aggressive or vicious behaviour, immediately call the hotline (2346555) to report it to the Police Canine Section at the Criminal Evidence and Information Department.

If you encounter a stray dog, the key is to stop, stay calm, and stay still. Avoid screaming, making sudden movements, or running away, as this can trigger the dog’s chase instinct. If possible, place a barrier between you and the dog, such as a bag, a car, or even a tree, and slowly back away until you’re safely out of the area.
To avoid encounters altogether, residents are urged to steer clear of areas where stray dogs are known to gather, especially at night. The public is also advised not to regularly feed stray dogs in the same spot, as this may cause them to claim the area as their territory. Staying away from places where puppies are kept and avoiding direct eye contact with stray dogs are also strongly recommended.
If you are bitten by a dog, seek medical attention immediately at the nearest health center or hospital to receive the rabies vaccine, even if the wound seems minor.
