Qatar MOFA Spokesperson Confirms No Direct Mediation Between US And Iran

In a recent press conference, Dr. Majid bin Mohammed Al Ansari, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, clarified Qatar’s stance on the current tensions in the region and addressed the country’s role amid escalating developments.

No Direct Mediation Between the US and Iran

Dr. Al Ansari confirmed that Qatar is not currently engaged in any direct mediation between the United States and Iran. While the country remains committed to dialogue and regional stability, it is not acting as a direct intermediary in these talks.

Relations with Iran

Regarding Qatar’s relationship with Iran, Dr. Al Ansari emphasized that Iran has been a longstanding presence in the region and, like other neighbouring countries, will continue to be. He stressed that wars or political events cannot erase these nations and that coexistence is essential for long-term regional stability.

He further acknowledged that Qatar has faced attacks that have affected its economy and the daily lives of its citizens. Despite these challenges, Qatar recognizes the need to live alongside a nation with a population exceeding 90 million.

Dialogue with Iran, he noted, depends on its actions—particularly regarding attacks on countries in the region. Iran must take responsibility for rebuilding trust after violating Qatar’s sovereignty.

Military Tensions and Regional Coordination

Addressing ongoing military tensions, Dr. Al Ansari stated that there are currently no clear indications of an imminent ground invasion of Iran. He cautioned, however, that continued escalation is unlikely to produce positive outcomes for the region.

He also highlighted that Qatar is maintaining close coordination with regional partners, structured around three key pillars:

  • Ensuring an immediate cessation of attacks
  • Advancing diplomatic solutions
  • Aligning positions on managing escalation

Commitment to Stability

Dr. Al Ansari’s statements underline Qatar’s commitment to stability, dialogue, and coexistence in a complex regional environment. By coordinating with neighbours, advocating for diplomatic solutions, and emphasizing the importance of responsible regional behavior, Qatar continues to play a constructive role in fostering security and reducing tensions.
