Qatar Clarifies Its Role in Mediating Ceasefire Efforts

In recent statements, Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, clarified the country’s stance regarding its role in mediating the ceasefire talks between Hamas and Israel. He strongly rejected media reports suggesting that Qatar had withdrawn from the mediation process. Dr. Al Ansari explained that 10 days ago, during the last round of attempts to broker an agreement, Qatar had informed the parties involved that it would pause its mediation efforts if no progress was made. He emphasized that Qatar is ready to resume its mediation efforts once both parties show genuine commitment to ending the war and addressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Dr. Al Ansari expressed that Qatar’s decision to halt mediation is not one of abandonment, but of a necessary pause due to a lack of real efforts to reach an agreement. Qatar, he said, will continue to be at the forefront of peace efforts, supporting international partners and working toward a resolution that ends the brutal conflict and addresses the suffering of civilians in Gaza. He added that Qatar’s efforts will also focus on securing the return of hostages and prisoners.

Qatar has consistently stressed that its involvement in mediation is not to be manipulated for political gain. Dr. Al Ansari pointed out the challenges Qatar has faced in the past when agreements were broken and negotiations used as a means to continue the war for narrow political purposes. He underscored that the State of Qatar will not accept being blackmailed, especially given the manipulative tactics seen after the collapse of the first ceasefire agreement and the subsequent failure of the women and children exchange deal.

Qatar’s Unwavering Support for Palestinian Rights and Clarifying the Role of the Hamas Office in Doha

In reaffirming Qatar’s position, Dr. Al Ansari also reiterated the country’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights. He emphasized that Qatar remains steadfast in advocating for an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The Palestinian issue remains central to Qatar’s foreign policy, reflecting the country’s long-standing commitment to supporting Palestinian sovereignty and justice.

Furthermore, Dr. Al Ansari addressed recent media speculation regarding the Hamas office in Doha. He clarified that the office’s role is purely to act as a communication channel between relevant parties involved in the peace process. The office has contributed to achieving ceasefires in previous stages and played a role in facilitating the exchange of hostages and detainees, particularly the women and children in November of last year. Dr. Al Ansari urged the public to rely on official sources for accurate information about the office’s function and Qatar’s role in the peace process.

As the situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, Qatar’s mediation efforts remain a key element in seeking a peaceful resolution. Qatar’s diplomatic position emphasizes the importance of direct communication, a commitment to impartiality, and a relentless drive toward ending the suffering of innocent civilians while securing a lasting peace for the region.
