Ramadan Watch Is On: When And Where To Spot The Crescent Moon In Qatar

Doha is officially gearing up for Ramadan season, and yes, the moon hunt is back.

Following Qatar Calendar House’s (QCH) earlier announcement that Ramadan is expected to begin on February 18, 2026, fresh details have now dropped on how, when, and where the crescent moon will be observed.

So if you’re curious about the science, the tradition, or just love a good sky-watching moment, here’s the scoop.

The crescent moon is always observed on the 29th day of the Hijri month, which this year falls on Monday, February 17

The observation officially kicks off after sunset, making dusk the magic hour to keep your eyes on the sky.

Where should you look?

According to QCH, moon spotters should face the western horizon, especially near the exact point where the sun sets. That’s where the crescent makes its brief and dramatic appearance, if conditions allow.

Not all locations are created equal when it comes to moon spotting. QCH recommends heading to elevated areas above sea level, away from city lights and environmental pollution.

Basically…the darker and higher the spot, the better your chances.

While all eyes will be on the sky, QCH emphasized that the official start of Ramadan will ultimately be announced by the Crescent Sighting Committee at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs. Until then, it’s a beautiful blend of astronomy, tradition, and anticipation.

So whether you’re moon hunting, planning your Ramadan prep, or just vibing with the season, February 17 is one to watch!!!
