Philippe Coutinho of Aston Villa is said to have reached an agreement with Al Duhail of Qatar, although the Premier League club has not approved the transfer.
The Brazilian player came on loan from Barcelona in the middle of the 2021–22 campaign before committing to a permanent contract before the 2022–23 season.
However, the 31-year-old struggled with form and injuries even as Villa secured a spot in the UEFA Europa Conference League, scoring just one goal in 22 games and setting up an early departure.
Even with an agreement between player and club, Villa has not yet approved Coutinho’s transfer since they may not want to lose one of their most seasoned players.
The squad paid €20 million ($21 million/£17 million) for him the previous season, and while any fee from Qatar might easily see them repay their expenditures, the move may occur too late in the transfer window for them to find a replacement.
