The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) in Qatar just caught nine gold shops trying to play the market.
After receiving multiple complaints, the ministry launched a major inspection campaign across 94 gold shops around the country and found several guilty of hiding gold and refusing to sell it to consumers to control prices.

That’s a clear violation of Article 10 of Qatar’s Consumer Protection Law, which prohibits suppliers from concealing goods or manipulating prices. MoCI confirmed that legal reports were filed and actions have already been taken against the violators.
The ministry stressed that these practices harm consumers and disrupt market stability, reminding businesses that fair trade isn’t optional.
MoCI also encouraged shoppers to report any suspicious activity or price manipulation through its official channels.
