Famed player Lionel Messi is on his way to shattering yet another record when a set of six jerseys from Argentina’s winning 2022 World Cup campaign in Qatar go up for sale, with a value estimated at over $10 million.

The renowned Argentine captain will have his jerseys auctioned off at Sotheby’s Auction House in December

In what many believe to be the greatest football final in history, Argentina defeated France in a penalty shootout at Lusail Stadium to win their third World Cup and Messi’s first.

With the potential to be one of the “most valuable collections of sports memorabilia at auction,” the auction house anticipates bids exceeding $10 million.

Messi seldom has his sports memorabilia up for auction, but one jersey he wore in the 2017 El Clasico sold for $450,000.

The goal of the British-founded company is to outsell the jersey that Michael Jordan wore in Game 1 of the 1998 NBA Final, which went for $10.1 million at Sotheby’s last year, with the striped blue and white shirts.

Wearing that uniform, the legendary basketball player would win his sixth and last NBA title.

Diego Maradona’s “Hand of God” shirt, an autographed football memento from Argentina, brought in the highest price at auction last year at $9.3 million.
