Pink October: MoEHE Hosts Event to Raise Breast Cancer Awareness

For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health and the Qatar Cancer Society, hosted the “Pink October” event. Breast cancer accounts for 35.1% of all cancer cases in Qatar. Nour explained that it occurs when abnormal cells in the breast grow uncontrollably. These cells divide much faster than healthy cells. As a result, early detection can significantly improve the chances of effective treatment. Additionally, Nour stressed that adopting a healthy lifestyle can help reduce the risk of developing the disease.

Hiba Nassar, Head of Community Health Awareness at the Qatar Cancer Society, addressed common myths. She shared that 50% of breast cancer cases occur without any clear risk factors. Therefore, regular screenings are vital. Hiba encouraged women to focus on facts, get screened, and take action, regardless of family history.
