Pink October: MoEHE Hosts Event to Raise Breast Cancer Awareness

For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health and the Qatar Cancer Society, hosted the “Pink October” event. The focus was on raising awareness about early detection, prevention, and healthy living. Let’s take a closer look at what happened.

Why early detection is crucial

The event took place at MoEHE’s headquarters in Doha, bringing together female employees. To kick things off, Reem Khalifa Al-Suwaidi, Assistant Director of the Technical Office of the Minister of Education and Higher Education, welcomed the attendees. Following this, Nour Hammad, Senior Health Educator from the Ministry of Public Health, shared vital information about how breast cancer develops, its symptoms, and why early detection is crucial.

Key facts about breast cancer

Breast cancer accounts for 35.1% of all cancer cases in Qatar. Nour explained that it occurs when abnormal cells in the breast grow uncontrollably. These cells divide much faster than healthy cells. As a result, early detection can significantly improve the chances of effective treatment. Additionally, Nour stressed that adopting a healthy lifestyle can help reduce the risk of developing the disease.

Debunking myths around breast cancer

Hiba Nassar, Head of Community Health Awareness at the Qatar Cancer Society, addressed common myths. She shared that 50% of breast cancer cases occur without any clear risk factors. Therefore, regular screenings are vital. Hiba encouraged women to focus on facts, get screened, and take action, regardless of family history.

In conclusion, the “Pink October” event reinforced the importance of early detection and prevention. It reminded everyone that regular screenings can save lives. Moreover, staying informed and proactive allows women to take control of their health. This event was an important step in creating a culture of prevention and awareness.
