A year after the biggest diplomatic rift in the GCC that saw Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt cut diplomatic, transport and trade ties with Qatar over their support for terrorism, a big new development has taken place.
Bahrain will now suspend the issuance of new visas to Qatari nationals, its interior ministry said on Tuesday.
The ministry posted a statment on its website indicating that this decision was carried out in response to the “irresponsible acts of Qatari authorities.” The statement wasn’t further elaborated.
The statement further explained that Qatari students studying in the kingdom as well as other Qatari nationals with existing valid visas are exempted from this ban.
