Qatar Successfully Reunites Children Separated by Russia-Ukraine Conflict With Families
In a significant development, the State of Qatar has announced the successful mediation efforts to reunite children with their families, underscoring its commitment to alleviating the plight of families affected by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
H.E. Lolwah bint Rashid Al-Khater, Minister of State for International Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, shared details of the initiative, emphasizing the State of Qatar’s proactive role in facilitating the reunification process.
According to H.E. Lolwah bint Rashid Al-Khater, the State of Qatar has been instrumental in reuniting Ukrainian children with their families in Ukraine, as well as Russian children with their families in Russia. The Embassy of the State of Qatar in Moscow has played a pivotal role by hosting the children and ensuring their safe passage to Ukraine, while representatives of Qatar have facilitated their secure transfer from Ukraine to Russia via Belarus.
Highlighting Qatar’s meticulous approach, H.E. Lolwah bint Rashid Al-Khater outlined the comprehensive measures undertaken to ensure the safety and well-being of the children throughout the reunification process. These measures include obtaining familial consent, verifying identities, coordinating with humanitarian organizations, addressing medical needs, and making logistical arrangements for the children’s seamless reunion with their families.
The Minister of State for International Cooperation extended Qatar’s gratitude to both Ukraine and the Russian Federation for their cooperation and commitment to safeguarding the children’s welfare. Special acknowledgment was reserved for H.E. Maria Lvova-Belova, Children’s Rights Commissioner for the President of the Russian Federation, and H.E. Dimitri Lubinets, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, for their invaluable contributions to the mediation efforts.
