Sheikh Joaan Congratulates Saudi Arabia on the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games Opening

The 6th Islamic Solidarity Games kicked off with excitement in Riyadh! 🏅 Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, Governor of Riyadh, officially opened the event at the Janadriyah Camel Racing Track. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), attended and sent his best wishes for a successful event. The Islamic Solidarity Games opened with a dazzling ceremony celebrating Saudi culture. It featured both traditional and modern performances, reflecting the shared Islamic heritage of all the participating nations. Prince Faisal bin Bandar, alongside leaders from various Olympic committees, welcomed more than 3,000 athletes.

In the Parade of Nations, Qatar was proudly represented by Mubarak al-Kuwari, a volleyball player, and Zakaria al-Abdullah, a fencer. They carried Qatar’s flag in front of 57 nations, setting the tone for the exciting competition ahead.

Qatar’s strong representation

Qatar has 82 athletes competing across 16 sports, including athletics, swimming, wrestling, and camel racing. The country has a rich history in the Islamic Solidarity Games, winning 30 medals to date, including 8 gold, 8 silver, and 14 bronze.

Qatar’s journey began in Makkah 2005, where it won its first gold medal. By Baku 2017, Qatar earned 12 medals, including 2 golds. In Konya 2022, Qatar increased its gold count to 4, solidifying its legacy. Now, Qatar is ready to add more medals to its collection.

Today’s competitions

Qatar’s athletes are already competing, with judoka Fatna Boukhaous facing Mozambique’s Chinidi Tasmani in the women’s under-57 kg round of 16. The men’s table tennis team, including Ahmed Saadawi, Mohammed Abdulwahab, and Abdullah Abdulwahab, will compete against Iran today.

In volleyball, the Qatari team, having lost both previous matches, will face Chad. Meanwhile, in swimming, Ali Tamer will compete in the men’s 50m freestyle, Mohammed Aziz Ismail in the 50m butterfly, and Mohammed Mahmoud and Hamza al-Shaalan in the 100m breaststroke.
