The 44th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit is anticipated to focus mostly on the Israeli attack on Gaza, which has resulted in the deaths of over 15,500 Palestinians, the most of them women and children.

The Arab Peace Initiative of 2002, which stipulates that East Jerusalem must serve as the capital of an independent Palestinian state, lays out a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine issue, which the leaders of the Gulf are anticipated to address.

In preparation for Monday’s 158th ministerial meeting of the Council, foreign ministers from the GCC nations travelled to Doha on Sunday.

The foreign ministers of Qatar and Saudi Arabia convened on Sunday in Doha to deliberate on their bilateral relations.

With Qatar serving as the intergovernmental council’s seventh host, this year’s summit marks the first GCC assembly to take place outside of Saudi Arabia in five years.

Israel’s illegal war on Gaza, which began on October 7, has been suspended for a week as a consequence of recent mediation efforts between Hamas and Israel by Qatar. However, on December 1, this cease-fire was broken.

The 2003-initiated joint Gulf railway project is one of the other subjects on the summit agenda. The leaders of the Gulf states will also talk about moving towards economic unification by 2025.

In addition, the agenda includes cooperation planning for tourist visa plans for the years 2023–2030.
