Msheireb Downtown Doha, Qatar’s new social, lifestyle, and cultural destination, is the result of a regeneration project that transformed Doha’s historic district. Built to bring a breath of sustainability to the city’s old commercial downtown, it is considered to be one of the world’s most sustainable city districts.

Msheireb in Arabic means “a place to drink water”, referring to an old well in the area where people used to drink water. After being restored to its old glory as a trade and business center, the district kept its name to honor Qatar’s history and heritage, becoming a trademark for future generations.

Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Msheireb Properties, initiated the Msheireb project to showcase the harmony when Qatari people live and work together. At the same, it represents the efforts of the country towards sustainability and innovation.

“Msheireb Properties will push the boundaries of architecture and urban planning in Qatar to unify the best of the past and present”, Sheikha Moza said. Adding, “To create a beautiful legacy and a vibrant new community at the heart of our capital city.”
