When Manchester United “return from their pre-season tour,” some “clarification” about the takeover controversy is “expected,” according to reports.

Since November of last year, the Red Devils have been for sale. At the time, the Glazer family declared that they would “evaluate all options” and that a full takeover was an option.

There have been three formal rounds of bidding since then. Sir Jim Ratcliffe of INEOS and Sheikh Jassim of Qatar have emerged as the front-runners to take over as the club’s principal shareholders, although it is still unclear who will prevail in the takeover battle.

Sheikh Jassim is only interested in a buyout that involves a 100% ownership, but Ratcliffe is reportedly willing to retain the Glazer family with a reduced holding of about 20%.

Initially, it was thought that a takeover would be completed in the early months of 2023, however this goal has since been shown to be unattainable.

The “bad news” for Manchester United, according to writer Ben Jacobs, is that “the transfer window could potentially close or be very close to closing before any prospective new owner – should they come in – has any influence,” earlier this month.
