Early reports state that a 37 year old Indonesian woman has been held by authorities after a deceased newborn baby was discovered by cleaners on board an Etihad plane.
The plane was travelling from Abu Dhabi to Jakarta but was forced to divert to Bangkok after the woman became ill.
Reportedly the Indonesian woman had been working in Abu Dhabi for the last four years as a domestic worker.
She became ill on the flight and was moved from economy to business class and provided with oxygen before the captain was forced to divert to Bangkok once she began bleeding.
She was met with medical assistance in Bangkok and the Etihad flight continued to Jakarta without her.
Cleaners on board the aircraft discovered the newborn in a drawer in the plane’s toilet.
The cause of death has not been confirmed.
The mother of the child flew to Jakarta from Bangkok on a later flight and will be questioned when she is deemed fit to do so.
