For a nation that prides itself in being one of the safest places in the world, having all-women safety teams at its beaches is a remarkable step forward.
Dubai beaches are known for its smart services, clean changing rooms with efficient lifeguards keeping us safe..but all of them have been groups of men so far.
This was until Dubai Police’s General Department for Community Happiness in cooperation with the Dubai Municipality announced that all-women rescue teams will soon be introduced at Dubai beaches.
As a part of this campaign, 12 female lifeguards are being trained to respond to emergencies, with the number all set to increase to 18 by the end of the year.
The campaign not only aims to prevent drowning cases, but will also reduce cases of theft and harassment of beach-goers.
Plans to introduce the first set of marine ambulances designed to tackle medical emergencies at eight specific points across Dubai are also underway.
