ANNOUNCEMENT: Lovin Dubai Website Is Closing Down And Rebranding As A Dating App

Avatar

The popular online platform with more than one million followers on social media has focused on news and lifestyle entertainment since it started in 2015. And now the Lovin Dubai group have, rather shockingly, decided to try their luck in the dating business.

They have spotted a gap in the market as dating apps are not permitted to be used in the UAE…

‘It’s a pretty obvious gap. It’s like if water wasn’t allowed to be sold in Dubai, you would notice it. Most people thought Lovin Dubai was to do with dating anyway, so we probably won’t have to do much marketing’.

Founder of Lovin Dubai, Richard Fitzgerald.

The Tinder of the UAE

Lovin Dubai is perceived as the Buzzfeed of the UAE, similar to how Careem is like Uber, or Souq.com was like Amazon, now Lovin DuBae aims to be the Tinder of the Middle East. The website has amassed a monthly readership of one million unique visitors and almost two million page views. They will be looking at taking some of what it took to build an online content platform, but creating a community around dating.

Details are relatively sketchy at this point but the name of the app is said to be Lovin DuBae, and the tag line they are going with is ‘Get Some Lovin Dubai’. Some of the rules of the app are

  • You have to say how much money you make
  • Disclose how many stamps you have on your passport
  • Every profile must have a picture has to be of you skydiving (real, or fake)
  • How many ladies nights you have been to
  • How long you’ve been in Dubai for

The app will generate revenue through adverts and sponsored profiles

Adverts will be placed among the profiles so users will see an advertisement every fourth swipe.

Meanwhile, users can have their profiles sponsored for a small fee, or written by the Lovin team for a charge. (Marilyn Monroe quotes not incl.)

‘No redundancies’

Lovin Dubai have said that all their current staff will remain in the company and now redundancies will be made, the necessary skills required to run a dating app will be trained, the new titles are:

  • Richard Fitzgerald – chief love officer
  • Caitlyn Davey – male recruitment officer
  • TJ Moini – female recruitment officer
  • Aneesa Masood – Lovin DuBae social media manager
  • Casey Fitzgerald – Lovin DuBae content creator
  • Shereen Ahmed – Lovin DuBae intern

Lovin Dubai have admitted that the timing is unusual and that they don’t have permission to launch a dating app, and more than likely wouldn’t be able to*.

*Disclaimer, this type of business is disrespectful to the laws of the country and not permitted in the UAE and this story may have something to do with the day that’s in it.
