This is the future of camel racing in Dubai and it was the brainchild of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, bin Rashid, Al Maktoum Crown Prince of Dubai.
A beautiful, healthy baby camel named Bint Shaheen was born at the Dubai Camel Breeding Centre on January 12.
And she was conceived using frozen sperm from a champion stallion named Shaheen, according to Gulf News.
Similar to horses, champion camels go into breeding following a successful racing career. However, the lifespan for reproduction is limited. In a conversation with Dr Jahangir Akbar, the director of the project, Sheikh Hamdan questioned whether there are ways to preserve the genetics of the animals, according to the report.
‘Bint Shaheen’ was born a healthy 30kg and she is quite possibly the world’s first ever camel to be born by artificial insemination.
